News and Community

Lady Monarch's Hit a Home Run!!

(March 16, 2015 - Riverhead, NY) On March 11th, the McGann-Mercy Lady Monarchs Softball teams held a fundraiser at Digger’s Ales ‘n Eats in downtown Riverhead.

Hosted by Stephen Wirth, owner of Diggers, the event raised more than $3,500 to be used for uniforms and equipment for the Lady Monarchs Softball Program.

This fundraiser gives the softball program an added extra boost as they play on the school’s new softball field located next junior high with the newly installed scoreboard (also purchased and installed as part of a Girl Scout service project for three members of the team and the generosity of community members.)

Principals Dinner Raises more than $125,000

The 2015 McGann-Mercy Principal’s Dinner, Casino Royale, held on Saturday, March 7, 6:00 pm at Giorgio’s in Baiting Hollow Was a Huge Success.

This year, McGann-Mercy honored the Stark Family (represented by Brian Stark, McGann-Mercy board member, Michelle Stark Hulse ‘86 and Barbara Stark Woodhull ‘77) by presenting them with the Principal’s Award and Alumni of the Year Award, The Honorable Barbara Wilson, Southampton Town and Village Justice received the Principal’s Award, as well as Bishop Emil Wcela, who received the Catherine McAuley Award.

More than 260 guests attended the event at Giorgio's and more than $125,000 was rasied to support Catholic Education at Bishop McGann-Mercy Diocesan High School.

Fitness Center Opens

After a year and a half in the making, McGann-Mercy celebrated the ribbon cutting, blessing and dedication of its new Fitness Center!

The “Fitness Forever Campaign” began in mid-2013, with the goal of improving and expanding the existing, outdated weight room into a venue that could be used by the entire Mercy family – physical education classes, student-athletes, as well as faculty, staff and coaches alike. The new McGann-Mercy Fitness Center incorporates cardio, core strength, Nautilus circuit, free weight and Hammer Strength stations, as well as an athletic trainer’s room. In addition, the fitness center has been designated an “Elite Official Hammer Strength Center,” making McGann-Mercy the only high school in Suffolk County to receive this designation.

Special thanks to all who came out to join us in celebration!

Mercy Day

On September 24th, Bishop McGann-Mercy High School joined in the celebration of Mercy Day, which commemorates the day when Catherine McAuley founded the Sisters of Mercy in Dublin, Ireland, in 1827.

Mercy Day serves as a reminder to challenge ourselves to follow in the footsteps of Catherine, serving those on the edges of society through ministry, advocacy and prayer.

We have embraced these tenets through our school-wide philosophy of “Living Mercy” and helping those in need. We challenge you to embrace this mission in how you treat and show your love towards those around you.
